It's (Not So) Hard Out Here For a Pimp...

Watched the Oscar nominations this morning in the kitchen with Sweetness on my lap, immediately before dragging her tearfully off to school. When the announced Terrence Howard's name I exclaimed "Yesss!" much to Sweetness's amusement. I fully expected him to be overlooked, but not only was he nominated for Best Actor, the song "It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp" was nominated as well. Will he sing it at the ceremony? Maybe the popularity of 'Crash' gave Howard some kind of subliminal boost.

Also very pleased to see 'Munich' get Best Picture and Director nods -- if anyone had asked, I would've gone on record as saying that I thought 'Cinderella Man' or 'Walk the Line' (only $100+ million grosser of films in contention) would have gotten the Best Picture slot, or even Syriana. Maybe the voters simply recognized that 'Munich' is a better movie, but it probably has more to do with Spielberg's popularity. Maybe that's also why 'War of the Worlds,' and not 'Star Wars' got so many technical nominations.

Disappointed to see Scarlett Johansson snubbed for 'Match Point.'
